Case Study: Magnetic Radiation
I was in the livingroom and getting a headache. Someone asked me to turn on my EMF meter, and it was red hot 100+ mG magnetic radiation. I turned off things in living areas, but nothing upstairs made a difference. Could not find anything in the living areas.
Went downstairs and the basement lights and stair stepper was on, causing 300 mG in basement also. Once those were unplugged, dropped to norm levels. We had encountered "net current". Wife's Insomnia went away, but my son's anxiety spike took several weeks to recover. Using my gaussmeter, voltage probe, and other tools determined that 30% of my outlets and basement light sockets are cross-connected to other circuits in other areas - creating huge magnetic radiation when energized.
Unplugged those, used extension cords and plug in lamps, as needed as a temporary fix. No more worry about turning on something, causing hotspots elsewhere.
I think every family should have EMF meters. It is better to know and take action then after the fact.
If you or family live near a high powerline, it would depend on how much power is in the high power line. 700kV, 400kV or 66kV? Best way to check with Gauss meter and EF meter.

There is a company that does Active Magnetic Shielding (Field Cancellation) $15k - $40k for homes to actively cancel out magnetic fields from high voltage powerlines. Shielding efficiencies of 65% to 95% are typical.

Smart Meter Dirty Electricity

Prior to installation
- 100+ Stetzerizer meter on outlets (dirty electricity reading)

From talking to SATIC rep, I can expect 10% lower electricity bill since my power quality in my house is pretty clean (100) to begin with. Stetzerizer dirty electricity readings of 1400 are much more typical due to LEDs, CFLs, Alexa, etc in homes, and they can expect up to 15%-30% decrease in their electricity with installation these line conditioners.

Smart Meter Wireless Radiation
If you or someone you know is under a lot of mental stress and anxiety (like autism, meltdowns), recommend also check for EMF exposure, especially from so called smart meters.
I highly recommend below primer on effect of smart meters on the human body:
- default microwave power setting of smart meters is 25 miles. This is total overkill especially if there is one less than 100 ft from you.
There are websites that recommend wrapping your own smart meter to decrease EMF exposure by 99%. However, I also found that one should also look beyond and check for cell phone towers and smart meters pointed directly or at an angle towards your house, like from your neighbors.
EMF Radiation can basically be divided into EMF from wireless emitters ("smartmeters," microwaves, cellphones cell towers, wifi, etc) and magnetic radiation due to inadequately shielded or wired electric devices, appliances, and electric wires.
I recommend checking for WIFI Radiation levels inside homes, work, and public places, and determine if there are any radiation hotspots in highly used areas.
I downloaded a free Smartphone App "Wifi EMF Radiation" to check my home and found that next to my Wifi, the couch was a Wifi radiation hotspot, and often had high radiation readings of over 150% (above "Seletun Statement" Recommended EMF), even after applying aluminum mesh. I also use ElectroSmart, which also captures Bluetooth, and Cellphone readings.
I replaced my Wifi with a low radiation version - The JRS ECO Wifi Router. The default transmit power was 30mW, and I lowered it to 1mW. The WIFI Radiation measured at the couch dropped to average of 3-6%, with a max of 15% without any shielding.
The JRS ECO Wifi Router emits 90% less radiation by pulsing 10x/sec vice 100x/sec, and uses software to adjust the transmit power, features often not avail in standard routers. I read about this via https://www.electricsense.com/11779/eco-wifi-low-radiation-router/
While I was visiting a relative's NYC highrise apartment, I was curious and used the same cellphone WIFI Radiation Meter to check radiation, and found readings over 1000%. I was shocked and turned off their WIFI as they did not even use WIFI that Verizon had "given" them. WIFI Readings dropped to less than 10% in most areas, but my relative's bed was a +150% WIFI Radiation Hotspot - I traced to 23 of their neighbors WIFI Routers. Unfortunately, the damage was already done, his mild parkinson's and dementia, had already become late stage parkinson's after sleeping in a Wifi Radiation hotspot for over two years. Another bed two rooms away had close to 0 radiation; and the occupant was in good health compared to the member in the high radiation hotspot.
While waiting for the DC Red Line train, I also checked Metro Union Station, and they had 1400% WIFI Radiation. 5 2GB routers emiting +200%, and 2 5GB routers emiting +200%. I emailed the WMATA Metro Customer Service with my findings, but they have not responded to me. While waiting for an oil change, I checked WIFI levels at my car dealership customer service waiting area, and they had 1000% WIFI radiation. I emailed Customer Service with my findings, but they too have not responded to my findings.
What to do?
- Turn off WIFI when not in use
- Replace WIFI with a low radiation WIFI. such as JRS-ECO Wifi Router https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1C3m_mcwHeI
- Apply shielding such as metallic fabric, metal mesh, microwave absorbing shields (advantage is less reflective)
- Wear EMF proof clothing in high EMF areas: I've measured high readings on trains, buses, and busy streets of NY. No need to just involuntarily absorb second hand radiation.
I also let WMATA know their trains exhibited high magnetic radiation in most areas. This makes sense as I would get extreme fatigue riding the Metro, especially on most spots of their trains. They were courteous, but did not advise if they would correct this discrepancy. I checked NYC subway trains and those were much lower than DC Metro trains. WMATA should learn how to fix their trains from NYC MTA counterparts. Amtrak Northeastern trains I measured high radiation coming from the floors of the trains. It could be due to net current, such as connecting neutrals to the chassis. Backs of most pubic buses are also very high.
Hybrid, electric cars, and vans with motorized sliding doors are very high and need magnetic shielding underneath carpets and glove compartments, whereas most ordinary cars need shielding for the driver and front passenger side.
Whenever the AC in my house turned on, there were hotspots in the dining room area where my EMF Meter read +5 mG (milliGauss). Anything over 2.5 mG is known to be unsafe. Using an EMF Meter ($35), I was able to locate and trace this to many wires between the smartmeter, and AC unit that ran underneath the floor of dining room.
The proper fix is to get an electrician to add proper shielding, replace wires, or rewire, but that will take much more planning, time and money.

After I ordered $99 RF Radiation Meter (ESI 21) I did a survey to find any weak spots in the shielding against my neighbor's smartmeter. As I passed the cordless phone, the reading beeped to the second highest red reading just 4 ft away. I unplugged the cordless phone, and the continuous moderate/high reading immediately dropped to green. I don't understand why, but cordless phone bases constantly emit high wireless radiation, even when not in use. That's probably one of the reasons why I would get very tired teleworking. I suggest replacing with corded phone, from Staples, or Amazon.
Let's be clear on the dangers of high level microwave radiation from Bluetooth.
WIFI and Bluetooth is the same frequency as microwave ovens about 2.5 GHz, which is used to cook food.
I used my RF meter and observed excessive (+5000 ?W/m2) transmit power from Bluetooth and WiFI of cellphones, laptops, so called "smart" TVs. Be aware some "smart" devices continue to radiate after being turned off, while others turn themselves back on after a set time.
Avoid using Bluetooth - Do everyone a favor and please do not expose yourself and your friends and family to radiation.
Do not sacrifice health for convenience. Above are hidden sources (ie, Trojan Horses) of powerful EMF radiation that are harmful to people. Fortunately, countermeasures are available for these if recognized in time: Wifi, Cordless phones, Bluetooth, cellphones.
RF radiation over 30 microwatts per meter2 (uW/m2) will cause harmful biological cell changes.
Below are some of my findings on wireless radiation, due to first-hand experience.
Basically radiation, whether it is called bluetooth, wifi, cellphone are classified in same class as microwaves and are harmful to people, especially children. Like cigarettes sold by the cigarette industry, wireless devices are misleadingly marketed as harmless.
Anything but! This radiation weakens and kill people so slowly most don’t know what’s happening to them or why.
France, banned smartphones in schools due to radiation hazard (cellular, wifi, Bluetooth, and electromagnetic). This makes perfect sense if each student emits 5000 microwatts/meter2 to communicate with the router via wifi or bluetooth, multiplied by 100 – 1000 students, - an enormous amount of harmful wireless radiation in a concentrated place.
EMF Sensitivity – Electromagnetic Field Sensitivity

There are really several issues here:
1- Avoid code violations which produce net current, see Karl Riley's book or his YouTube video: (this may be the most important one)
2- Route the wiring away from or around the living spaces, rather than through them.
3- Orient the Romex so that the narrow edge faces the living space. (Note that the field around Romex is not uniform. It is highest on the flat sides and lowest on the narrow sides. Twisting the Romex is only better than having the flat side towards the living space as it simply alternates flat side then narrow side towards living space. It is NOT better than having the narrow side consistently towards the living space.)
4- Use metal clad (BX or metal conduit), to shield electric field if you must, but this makes controlling the flat side very difficult. A better solution is to enclose the Romex in grounded Aluminum Tape to shield electric field.
5- A better option is to enclose Romex in grounded Magnetic Shielding Foil (for straight runs) and SpiraShield (for curved sections) to shield both electric field and magnetic field. Of course, this only works if there is no net current (see #1 above).

6. I would also check sleep area and high usage areas for excessive electric fields to mitigate. Ungrounded appliances, laptops, ceiling lights come to mind.
